About the Course

Renal nursing is a specialised area of nursing practice that treats patients with kidney disease and educates both patients and families about treatment protocols. Renal nurses assume a wide range of responsibilities from clinical care to administration.

This course provides a systematic introduction to the concepts of Renal Nursing via the acquisition of the information and skills necessary to work as a person-centered care Renal nurse in a life span healthcare context.

Students will examine the critical necessity of a person-centered approach to meeting the needs of people and families in acute, chronic, rehabilitative, and nursing home settings, and examine nursing care for individuals from diverse cultural groups, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who need appropriate care.

A fundamental aspect of this course is the focus on a person-centred approach to Renal Nursing, which will ensure the treatment of persons with Renal diseases in acute, chronic, aged care, disability, and rehabilitation healthcare settings.

Students will participate in simulated case studies and examinations are used to help students understand the specialised information, clinical reasoning, and abilities necessary in this field of nursing. Students are expected to develop confidence in their ability to use the evidence-based specialised knowledge and skills acquired in a life span healthcare context.

The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing also serves as a gateway for students wanting to pursue a Master of Nursing degree in Australia, either on-campus or online.
