Attendance requirements

Students studying in Australia on a student visa must meet all attendance requirements (minimum 80% attendance). If a student is ill and unable to attend class, they must get a medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner and provide this to their class teacher. Attendance is monitored by the college and students receive warning letters if their attendance is at risk of dropping.

Our ELICOS General English course is an excellent starting point for students who wish to improve their ability to communicate and understand the language clearly, whether for work, socialising or with the aim of completing further study. General English is suited to both short-term students (such as backpackers and tourists) as well as long-term students and those who wish to live and work in Australia.

English levels offered within the program include:

  • Elementary
  • Pre-intermediate
  • Intermediate
  • Upper-intermediate

Students intending to complete further study may opt to join our English of Academic Purposes (EAP) course.

Classes are offered year-round at all 4 levels of study (Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate & Upper-intermediate). Students spend an average of 12 weeks at each level of study before progressing to the next level. To ensure their success, students need to be proactiveand engaged learners, complete assigned homework and assignments, work closely with their class teacher and attend classes on a regular basis (see attendance requirements). Upon successful completion of the program, students have the option of graduating or moving into further academic English programs (such as English for Academic Purposes).

  • Students will sit regular tests throughout each 12-week course, as well as completing a final summative test at the end of each level
  • Students are assessed on their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills
  • Our assessment process follows ELICOS guidelines and is valid and fair
  • Students will be provided with a certificate at the completion of each level of study, in addition to detailed assessment outcomes and written feedback

The college undertakes processes for continual improvement of student assessments by:

  • Making adjustments of course and assessment material based on the collection and analysis of feedback from students and staff as well as other stakeholders
  • The regular evaluation and adjustment of the achievement of course outcomes
