BIO
Associate Professor Stephen McKeever is a critical care nurse academic whose specialisations include paediatric critical care, paediatric emergency transport, and long-term EEG monitoring. His extensive clinical experience has been gained across United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia, with a primary focus on caring for critically ill children and their families.
In August 2012, Stephen graduated with a PhD from The University of Melbourne. His doctoral thesis examined electroencephalograph changes occurring in children during anaesthesia. Since then, he has provided education to students from undergraduate to post-doctoral level. This has been in United Kingdom and Australian university sectors.
Dr. McKeever’s career spans senior clinical and research roles, including positions as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, Research Officer with Murdoch Children’s Research Institute’s Neonatal Research Group, Nurse Consultant for Nursing Research at Royal Children’s Hospital, and Critical Care Research Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust.
His research portfolio spans paediatric critical care education, including development of COVID-19 critical care training programs for nurses, transitions from paediatric to adult congenital heart disease services, palliative care monitoring, and cognitive bias in clinical decision-making. His scholarly work has attracted over 500 citations, reflecting his standing as a respected voice in academic nursing.
