Dr Joseph Musasizi is a social work and sociology academic and lecturer at the Institute of Health and Management (IHM), Melbourne. His teaching takes an interdisciplinary approach, integrating social work, sociology, and international development, and is grounded in a strong commitment to social justice, critical inquiry, and reflective practice. Before joining IHM, Joseph worked as a sessional academic and affiliate researcher at Monash University. He also gained industry experience with Family Safety Victoria, contributing to initiatives that support family safety and community wellbeing. These academic and professional experiences shape his teaching by connecting theory, research, and real-world practice. Joseph holds a PhD in Sociology from Monash University. His research focuses on intergroup relations, culture, migration, othering, and the lived experiences of refugees and asylum seekers, particularly where these issues intersect with social work practice and policy.
