Binoy Joseph holds a PhD from Charles Darwin University, specialising in education and mental health, with his doctoral research examining the impact of student violence on teacher wellbeing. He brings over 19 years of professional social work experience across South Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland, having worked in practitioner, senior practitioner and team leader roles in child protection, hospital social work, defence social work and school social work.
Prior to his professional career in Australia, Binoy developed an academic career in India, where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate Social Work students at the Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (RCSS) in southern India. As a founding faculty member of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at RCSS, he played a significant role in establishing the program and developing its fieldwork curriculum.
During his academic career in India, Binoy presented papers at national seminars and conferences and provided consultancy services to a range of human service organisations. His consultancy work included developing innovative projects and funding proposals in areas such as self-help groups, computer literacy, services for older people, hospice care and support for young people with disability.
Binoy holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Social Work from Nagpur University and a Master of Social Work (MASW) from Madras Christian College, University of Madras. His research and professional interests include teacher wellbeing, social work education and practice, community development, child protection, and the intersection of education and mental health.
