BIO
Dr. Sumathi is a dedicated and highly experienced nurse educator with a strong background in clinical practice and academic leadership. She has over 30 years of experience in the nursing field. Graduated from the College of Nursing, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, India, and went on to earn a Master of Nursing in Paediatric Nursing from Calicut University with a first rank, as well as a Ph.D. in Paediatric Nursing from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore. After completing BSc in Nursing, she worked in the Cardiothoracic intensive care unit as a registered nurse and thereafter as a ward manager. Also held the position of Assistant Night supervisor at CMC&H Vellore.
Worked in the School of Nursing and Vocational Education as a lecturer for a short time.
She has worked in Lisie College of Nursing in various positions from Lecturer to Associate Professor and was involved in teaching undergraduate and master’s programs and guiding research projects for Bachelor’s and master’s programs and being involved in clinical supervision of students. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at national and international conferences. She is a member of the Trained Nurse’s Association of India and the Nursing Research Society of India. Dr. Sumathi is an expert in Paediatric nursing and has a deep understanding of the needs of children and their families. She has completed a certificate program in Childhood Disability management and Community based Rehabilitation from Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur, Kerala. She is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of nurses and is committed to providing her students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in the field. In her current role at IHM, Dr. Sumathi is responsible for maintaining and enhancing academic quality standards for the Master of Nursing program.
