About the Course

Diabetes Specialist Nurses are crucial in providing good patient care and promoting self-care management in a variety of care settings.

This course provides a systematic introduction to the fundamentals of diabetes nursing, equipping students with the information and skills necessary to pursue a career as a Diabetes nurse in a variety of healthcare settings.

Students will examine the origins, risk factors, pathophysiology, symptoms, therapies, interprofessional care, psychosocial support, and nursing care of individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, as well as their relatives and caregivers.

A fundamental aspect of this course is the focus on a person-centered approach to diabetic nursing, which will ensure the care of persons with diabetes (from children to older adults) in acute, chronic, aged care, disability, and rehabilitation healthcare settings.

Students will be encouraged to participate actively in class discussions and online discussions centred on simulated case studies and evaluations are used to facilitate the integration of the specialised information and abilities necessary for diabetic nursing practise in a hospital context.

The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing also serves as a gateway for students wanting to pursue a Master of Nursing degree in Australia, either on-campus or online.
