Governance that includes students
The Student Representative Council sits within the School's governance structure, bringing current student experience directly to decisions about teaching, placements and student life.
Graduating students join a profession governed by the AASW, the national body setting ethics and practice standards. IHM graduates are eligible to apply for membership on completing the BSW.

From the Board of Directors to your classroom
IHM is governed by its Board of Directors, which delegates academic governance to the Academic Board and corporate oversight to the Audit & Risk Committee. The Academic Board is supported by specialist committees that safeguard teaching quality, assessment standards and student support across the institute.
The School of Social Work's advisory structure plugs directly into this framework: advice from the Social Work Advisory Committee - senior practitioners, academics and community members - flows through the Course Development & Advisory Committee (CDAC) to the Academic Board, so professional and community voices shape decisions about the BSW curriculum, placements and standards.
IHM governance structure: the IHM Board of Directors oversees the Academic Board and the Audit and Risk Committee. Reporting to the Academic Board are the Board of Examination, the ASU-IHM Joint Partnership Advisory Committee, the Student Representative Council, the Course Development and Advisory Committee and the Learning and Teaching Committee. The Nursing Advisory Committee and the Social Work Course Advisory Committee report to the Course Development and Advisory Committee; the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education and Support Committee and the Degree Committee report to the Learning and Teaching Committee. Reporting to the Audit and Risk Committee are the Appeals Committee and the Finance Committee.
